Momentum Resolution Studies for a TPC - Based Central Tracker
نویسنده
چکیده
This note describes a study on the momentum resolution of the TPC-based central tracker design which will be included in the ECFA/DESY conceptual design report (CDR) for the proposed DESY 500 GeV electron-positron linear collider. The study found it to be likely that the central tracker could achieve a momentum resolution of approximately 10 −4 (GeV/c) −1 , particularly if a layer of silicon microstrip detectors were to be added just inside the TPC.

TPC Performance in Magnetic Fields with GEM and Pad Readout
A novel charged particle tracking device, a high precision time projection chamber with gas electron multiplier and pad readout, is a leading candidate as the central tracker for an experiment at the International Linear Collider. To characterize the performance of such a system, a small TPC has been operated within a magnetic field, measuring cosmic-ray and laser tracks. Good tracking resoluti...

This report describes an all-solid state central tracker which is intended for use in a detector at the proposed DESY 500 GeV electron-positron linear collider or a similar accelerator. The precise position measurements from position-sensitive silicon detectors give the tracker an outstanding momentum resolution for high momentum tracks: σp/p 2 = 3.6× 10 (GeV/c) for tracks perpendicular to the ...

A large volume Time Projection Chamber (TPC) is being considered for the central charged particle tracker for the detector for the proposed International Linear Col-lider (ILC). To meet the ILC-TPC spatial resolution challenge of ∼ 100 µm with a manageable number of readout pads and channels of electronics, Micro Pattern Gas Detectors (MPGD) are being developed which could use pads comparable i...
متن کاملLinear Polarimetry with γ→ e+e− Conversions
γ-rays are emitted by cosmic sources by non-thermal processes that yield either non-polarized photons, such as those from π0 decay in hadronic interactions, or linearly polarized photons from synchrotron radiation and the inverse-Compton up-shifting of these on high-energy charged particles. Polarimetry in the MeV energy range would provide a powerful tool to discriminate among “leptonic” and “...
متن کاملReport of the Tracking Subgroup
The charged particle tracking system is a key element of the SDC configuration. This system is expected to provide pattern recognition, momentum resolution, vertex information, a charged-particle pt trigger, and electron/hadron separation. It is expected to interact strongly with the other detection elements: it will be the device that provides the momentum resolution for muons, which are ident...
